From its beginnings as Poyle Hill Lodge to its role on the historic Hog’s Back ridge, the hotel has evolved from a hilltop mansion into a welcoming retreat, shaped by history, landscape and generations of travellers.

  • Early 1900’s

    Poyle Hill Lodge

    A hilltop mansion and former Admiralty semaphore station on the Hog’s Back.

  • 1935

    Becomes a hotel

    Poyle Hill Lodge was converted into the Hog’s Back Hotel by Friary Brewery.

  • 1940’s

    A Strategic Ridge

    The Hog’s Back served as a key route and WWII defensive line protecting London.

  • 2013

    Joins Surya Hotels

    Surya Hotels acquired the Hog’s Back Hotel & Spa, continuing its story.
