Born from early 1900s seaside ambition, the Kingscliff grew from an unfinished project into a much-loved coastal hotel, expanding through the decades while keeping its timeless shoreline charm.

Kings Cliff Estate begins
Early 1900s land purchase sparks development of the future Kingscliff site.

1901
Hotel build first refused
Plans for a hotel stall, and the half-built structure is later abandoned.

1930
Greene King Acquires Site
Brewery takes ownership and prepares the long-stalled hotel for completion.

1932
Kingscliff Hotel Opens
The Kingscliff Hotel finally opens to guests at Easter after decades of delay.

1936
First major extension
A new wing expands the hotel, increasing guest rooms and capacity.

1980’s
Further expansion
Significant additions modernise the hotel and grow its room offering.

2009
Surya Hotels purchase
Surya Hotels acquires Kingscliff, marking the group’s first-ever hotel.

2013
Refreshed and extended
Another expansion brings the hotel to 30 bedrooms with updated facilities.
